The United States Army will host the 2016 Department of Defense (DoD) Warrior Games at the United States Military Academy (USMA) in West Point, N.Y., from June 15-21. The Warrior Games are open to the public and we are looking for volunteers to help the event run smoothly, and to provide the best possible support to our athletes and their families.
You can volunteer as an individual or group with your family, social club, school, church or work colleagues. Your support will be invaluable to hundreds of wounded, ill and injured service members and veterans from the Army, Marine Corps, Navy, Coast Guard, Air Force, Special Operations Command and United Kingdom Armed Forces. No special expertise is required and mandatory Warrior Games volunteer training will be provided. The USMA is a federal installation and additional documentation may be required for individuals requesting access. Lodging, food and transportation are all at the volunteer’s expense.
Volunteer positions include escorts, back up scorers, assistant lane judges, cheering squad and spectators, crowd control, official greeter, parking guide, runner, score keeper, set up/clean up, social media volunteer, time keeper and more!
- Connections/Skills Enhancement – Volunteering is a great way to meet new people, use your talents and skills for a greater good and gain new skills and experience. Volunteer opportunities such as this one can strengthen your ties to the community, introduce you to people with common interests and broaden your support network.
- Sense of Community – Volunteering at the Warrior Games allows you to show your gratitude to the military community and work towards giving back to wounded warriors and their families.
- Fulfillment – Helping others is a selfless act that kindles happiness, can increase self-confidence, give hope, provide a sense of purpose and increase your sense of accomplishment.
