Adaptive sports and reconditioning activities help enable healing of wounded, ill and injured service members through a holistic approach throughout their recovery and reintegration process: mentally, emotionally, spiritually, physically and socially. The Department of Defense recognizes that the recovery of these warriors can also be attributed in part to the critical support they receive from their families, caregivers, friends and communities. Family members are included in adaptive sports and reconditioning activities, whenever possible, to create an atmosphere of fun and leisure, addressing family well-being. The Warrior Games is the pinnacle event of the adaptive sports and reconditioning activities and participation fosters positive relationships among all service members, veterans, families and caregivers. The games also provide an opportunity to share common experiences and celebrate accomplishments in overcoming adversity and thriving.
